The Federal Trade Commission is urging Congress to amend the FTC Act so the agency can recoup money for defrauded consumers, according to the article. Kaufman tells the National Law Journal that, despite a Supreme Court ruling limiting its authority, the FTC has been able to offer some monetary relief to consumers.

“Certainly, the agency would be able to get money much more easily, with less hoops and hurdles, if Congress were to do something to address the issues created by” the Supreme Court decision, Kaufman says. “If Congress does something to make it easier for the FTC to get money, then I do not doubt that they will use that authority aggressively and get more money back to consumers,” he added.
