Congress returns from its August recess facing a deadline at the end of the month to fund the government, with the political prospects for a funding deal looking <a href="https://punchbowl.news/archive/9225-am/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">ominous</a>.

British member of Parliament and prime minister hopeful Nigel Farage will testify at a congressional hearing regarding European laws governing online content.

The House will be in <a href="https://www.majorityleader.gov/schedule/weekly-schedule.htm" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">session</a> today through Thursday, taking up <a href="https://rules.house.gov/media/announcement/meeting-announcement-september-2-2025" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">legislation</a> to overturn Biden administration rules from the Bureau of Land Management.  

The Judiciary Committee will hold a <a href="https://judiciary.house.gov/committee-activity/hearings/europes-threat-american-speech-and-innovation" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">hearing</a> tomorrow titled “Europe’s Threat to American Speech and Innovation,” with Farage testifying.

Also tomorrow, the Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee will hold a <a href="https://energycommerce.house.gov/events/health-subcommittee-examining-opportunities-to-advance-american-health-care-through-the-use-of-artificial-intelligence-technologies" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">hearing</a> on artificial intelligence in health care.

The Senate will take up the annual Defense policy <a href="https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/senate-bill/2296" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">bill</a>.

The Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee will hold a <a href="https://www.commerce.senate.gov/2025/9/there-s-a-bad-moon-on-the-rise-why-congress-and-nasa-must-thwart-china-in-the-space-race_2" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">hearing</a> tomorrow on “Why Congress and NASA Must Thwart China in the Space Race.”

Kennedy will <a href="https://www.finance.senate.gov/hearings/the-presidents-2026-health-care-agenda" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">appear</a> before the Finance Committee Thursday, likely facing sharp questioning about recent <a href="https://rollcall.com/2025/08/28/kennedy-to-testify-before-congress-next-week-amid-cdc-tumult/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">turmoil</a> at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Trump has an unspecified announcement scheduled for this afternoon.

He is maintaining a light public schedule, with no other events currently announced.
