The political world was roiled by last week’s assassination of Charlie Kirk in Utah, with members of Congress voicing growing <a href="https://rollcall.com/2025/09/12/for-congress-security-fears-haunting-part-of-the-job/">concern</a> for their own safety.

Thursday, Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, Council Chair Phil Mendelson and Attorney General Brian Schwalb will <a href="https://oversight.house.gov/hearing/oversight-of-the-district-of-columbia/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">appear</a> at the Oversight and Government Reform Committee for an oversight hearing on the District of Columbia.

The Senate plans to <a href="https://www.senate.gov/legislative/floor_activity_pail.htm" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">vote</a> for a bloc of Trump’s nominees, after <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/5499527-senate-republicans-nuclear-option-rules-trump-nominees/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">voting</a> last week to change its rules and allow multiple nominees to be confirmed in a single vote.

Patel will <a href="https://www.judiciary.senate.gov/committee-activity/hearings/oversight-of-the-federal-bureau-of-investigation-09-16-2025" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">testify</a> tomorrow before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

The Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee will hold a <a href="https://www.help.senate.gov/hearings/restoring-trust-through-radical-transparency-reviewing-recent-events-at-the-centers-for-disease-control-and-prevention-and-implications-for-childrens-health" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">hearing</a> Wednesday on recent events at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, with former Director Susan Monarez.

Trump will <a href="https://rollcall.com/2025/09/12/trump-shutdown-republican-congress-travel/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">travel</a> to the United Kingdom tomorrow, hosted by King Charles at Windsor Castle.

Wednesday, he will <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c8rynvlm6zjo" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">visit</a> the tomb of Queen Elizabeth II and attend a traditional state banquet.

Thursday, Trump will <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/09/14/global-week-ahead-from-royals-to-tech-deals-as-trump-visits-uk.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">meet</a> with Prime Minister Keir Starmer before returning to the U.S.
