We’ll continue to post in weeks when both chambers of Congress are in session.
HEADLINES
•  Congress returns from its Independence Day recess for a legislative blitz as leaders press forward on a bipartisan infrastructure bill and a separate partisan package that Democrats expect will include trillions of dollars of President Joe Biden’s tax and other spending priorities.
•  Federal Reserve Chairman Jay Powell will appear before committees in both chambers to deliver the Fed’s semiannual report to Congress.
•  Biden will host Angela Merkel at the White House, likely her final visit after 16 years as chancellor of Germany.
HOUSE
<ul>
<li>The House is in a committee work week. No floor votes are planned.</li>
<li>The House Appropriations Committee will <a href="https://appropriations.house.gov/events">mark up</a> eight annual funding bills throughout the week.</li>
<li>The Financial Services Committee will hold a Wednesday <a href="https://financialservices.house.gov/calendar/eventsingle.aspx?EventID=408105">hearing</a> with Powell on monetary policy and the state of the economy.</li>

SENATE
<ul>
<li>The Senate <a href="https://www.senate.gov/floor/index.htm">plans</a> to continue working on confirming Biden’s nominees.</li>
<li>The Senate Foreign Relations Committee will receive a <a href="https://www.foreign.senate.gov/hearings/sjres-10-repeal-of-the-1991-and-2002-authorizations-for-use-of-military-force-as-well-as-discussion-of-recent-us-military-strikes-in-iraq-and-syria">closed briefing</a> on <a href="https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/senate-joint-resolution/10/all-info?r=1&s=1">J.Res. 10</a>, to repeal the authorizations for use of military force against Iraq, and will discuss recent U.S. military strikes in Iraq and Syria.</li>
<li>The Senate Banking Committee on Thursday will <a href="https://www.banking.senate.gov/hearings/07/07/2021/the-semiannual-monetary-policy-report-to-the-congress">receive</a> Powell’s semiannual monetary policy report.</li>

WHITE HOUSE
<ul>
<li>Biden will lead a <a href="https://apnews.com/article/joe-biden-government-and-politics-shootings-violence-gun-politics-e9ea51a8d74e7fbab8a7d16ff5c7cfab">meeting</a> today with law enforcement and local leaders to discuss strategies to address increases in violent crime. Eric Adams, a retired police officer and favorite to be elected as New York City’s next mayor, is among the meeting attendees.</li>
<li>Biden on Tuesday will travel to Philadelphia to <a href="https://twitter.com/mikememoli/status/1413513262767869954">speak</a> on voting rights.</li>
<li>Biden will <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/germanys-merkel-visit-biden-white-house-july-15-2021-06-11/">host</a> Merkel on Thursday.</li>
</ul>
