The United States Department of Labor as well as state legislatures have taken an active role in 2023 to regulate wage and hour issues that directly impact employers’ bottom lines and talent recruitment. These issues include setting increased hourly minimum wage rates for non-exempt employees and salary thresholds for exempt employees, and requiring employers to post the hourly rates or salaries for open positions. Minimum wage, salary threshold, pay transparency, and many other wage and hour topics will continue to be a focus for legislatures across the country in 2024, given the national attention to this space.
