Paul Schmidt Talks about BakerHostetler's Approach to Return-to-Office and Remote Work Policies

News / July 15, 2021

Chairman Paul Schmidt is quoted in an article published on July 15, 2021, by Politico, which surveyed leading executives from Wall Street, the banking industry, the tech sector and the legal field regarding the transformation of work in the wake of the pandemic. The article “The Future of Work Has Arrived, and It’s Messy” discusses how businesses are attempting to deal with return-to-the-office policies and the continued popularity of remote work among many employees.

Schmidt discussed the hybrid model BakerHostetler will be using as lawyers and staff begin to return to the office. “What we’re telling people [is]: ‘Look, your job requires you to be in the office because of teamwork; because of collaboration; because of coaching, mentoring, apprenticeship, the value of collegiality,’ ” Schmidt told Politico. “But you might not need to be in the office every day of the week, every week of the year.”

He also noted that “the pandemic has proven that lawyers can be very effective at getting their work done remotely. But it’s not a great sampling of what a remote or hybrid work environment will be like in the future when some people are in the office.”
