Paul Schmidt Talks to "The American Lawyer" about Return-to-Office Options

News / September 7, 2021

Chairman Paul Schmidt is featured in an article published on Sept. 7, 2021, by The American Lawyer. The article “With Office Returns Delayed, Law Firms May Not Get Back Until 2022” reports on the possibility that while many law firms had scheduled returns to the office in September and October, many may not fully return to the office until 2022.

Schmidt told the publication that since BakerHostetler delayed its scheduled September return, the transmissibility and uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 delta variant “really haven’t changed,” however mid- to late October or early November might still be workable times.

“If you wait much longer, you run into Thanksgiving and the December holidays, with people in and out and around, and you just really wonder if it makes sense if you wait too long into the year,” Schmidt said. “We would be very disappointed if we don’t open in 2021, and we are still hopeful that we’ll be able to do that. But I think the window is pretty finite with us not coming back in September. It’s got to be sometime in the middle of the fall if we’d like to do that.”
