Becky Lutzko returned to BakerHostetler as a partner in the Litigation Group in April 2026, after serving as the U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Ohio. She served as the district’s chief federal law enforcement officer, leading an office of approximately 175 attorneys and staff, setting enforcement priorities and driving the strategy for complex criminal prosecutions and civil litigation on the government’s behalf. She oversaw complicated, high-stakes matters, including numerous significant False Claims Act cases and cases involving securities, corporate, financial, health care, securities, tax, and other government-program frauds; cybercrime; environmental violations; national security issues; public corruption; Title IX, fair housing, disability rights, and other civil rights matters; Controlled Substance Act violations; money laundering; violent crime and obstruction of justice, among others. Becky worked closely with Department of Justice officials, federal, state, and local partners and community organizations and leaders.
Becky now advises companies, boards, nonprofits and executives on high-stakes criminal and civil enforcement matters and crisis situations, from the compliance and investigation stages through trial and appeal. Her practice focuses on white collar defense, False Claim Act and other complex civil litigation, internal investigations, and other government-facing civil and criminal litigation. She draws on two decades of experience as a federal prosecutor to help clients respond to government scrutiny, manage high-stakes disputes and navigate sensitive regulatory and enforcement challenges. Clients rely on her to deliver clear strategy, sound judgment and practical solutions at every stage of a matter.
Before her appointment as U.S. attorney, Becky served as assistant U.S. attorney in the Northern District of Ohio, including as deputy chief of the Major Fraud and Corruption Unit and as appellate chief. She handled cases from investigation through appeal and developed a reputation for clear, persuasive advocacy in both trial and appellate courts. She tried complex cases, including several lasting a month or more, directed large-scale, multiagency investigations, coordinated closely with federal, state and local partners and guided matters involving significant financial exposure and complex evidentiary issues. She also built a strong appellate practice, regularly briefing and arguing cases before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, including en banc. In addition, she handled complex post-conviction matters and defended trial outcomes in high-stakes appeals.
After serving as a Sixth Circuit judicial law clerk, Becky began her legal career at BakerHostetler, where she conducted internal investigations and represented corporate clients in complex litigation related to white collar criminal matters, First Amendment claims (free speech, defamation, Ohio Sunshine Law and religious freedom cases), intellectual property issues (trademark, copyright and patent), employment matters (discrimination claims and non-compete clauses), construction litigation, business disputes and product liability claims. Her return to the firm reflects a full-circle career, allowing her to bring both government-side and private-practice perspectives to represent clients facing bet-the-company litigation and enforcement risk.
