About Carlson’s practice

With more than a decade’s worth of experience litigating and trying patent cases, Carlson is primed to develop winning legal strategies for his clients.

Carlson has represented clients in U.S. District Courts and the USPTO and has considerable experience appearing before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the International Trade Commission. He is skilled throughout all aspects of trial work, including trial presentation, witness examination, mock jury exercises, oral argument, briefs and motions, and case management and strategy.

Prior to law school, Carlson worked as an engineer for a multinational aerospace and defense conglomerate. He led a team developing classified infrared targeting pods for F/A-18 Hornet fighter jets and developed computer algorithms for optical image stabilization in spy satellites. After graduating from law school, Carlson worked on secondment at an American medical technology company, prosecuting patents for artificial heart valves and other cardiac medical devices.

Carlson earned his J.D. from Loyola Law School and received an M.Eng. in systems engineering and B.S. in mechanical engineering from Cornell University.
