Maria Boelen’s growing general litigation practice encompasses a wide variety of industries and matters, including the handling of class action and commercial disputes. She has experience litigating matters in both state and federal courts, including matters related to employment law, data breaches and privacy, real estate and land use, bankruptcy, and general commercial litigation. She has represented employers, healthcare companies, national retailers, developers, financial services companies, and various other businesses. With her broad experience, Maria is able to advise her clients by applying a comprehensive and well-rounded perspective to their respective issues.

  • Defended class actions arising from large data breaches, including the theft of computers alleged to contain the information of more than four million patients and a payment card breach affecting a large retailer with locations in eight states.
  • Represented multiple employers in putative class actions alleging violations of the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA) based on employers’ alleged use of finger scanning technology for timekeeping purposes.
  • Authored Illinois Appellate Court brief arguing that state property law claims against a national railroad company were not preempted by federal law.
