The past year has seen at least 16 states introduce data privacy bills addressing an array of consumer privacy issues – an enhanced focus that equips consumers with significant safeguards, while also creating specific compliance risks for businesses and organizations.

On Aug. 24, BakerHostetler’s Atlanta office hosted the State Bar of Georgia, Privacy &amp; Technology Law Section for “An Overview of the Consumer Comprehensive &amp; Health Data Privacy Laws.” The presenters offered an overview of recent state privacy law requirements; explained how companies can operationalize the laws as they go into effect; and explored additional protections for consumer health data, as codified in new health privacy laws from Washington, Nevada and Connecticut.

Associate Kyle Gregory served as the discussion’s moderator. He was joined by a panel of high-ranking attorneys capable of providing sound insight for the discussion: Shaudie Fassih, privacy counsel at The Coca-Cola Company; Roshal Marshall, managing chief counsel, Enterprise Data Privacy, Security and Technology Law, at the McKesson Corporation; and Brittany Jones, associate general counsel and privacy officer at DispatchHealth.&nbsp;

Gregory was hardly the only member of the firm’s Digital Assets and Data Management Group with impressive knowledge of the subject matter at the event. Among them: Associates Toni Igbenoba and Heather Kuhn, both executive committee members of the Georgia Bar, Privacy &amp; Technology Law Section; Partner Janine Anthony Bowen, co-leader of both the Privacy Governance and Technology Transactions and Digital Transformation and Data Economy teams, and DADM leader for the Atlanta and Orlando offices; and Partner John Hutchins, a frequent speaker on privacy, data security and tech law topics.
