Partner Aleksandra Vold commented on the issues caused by delays in notification of a data breach in an article in Healthcare Info Security titled “Insurance Firm Notifies 156K Victims – One Year After the Hack.” The article discusses the data breach experienced by Alera Group, an Illinois-based brokerage firm that works with employers, businesses and consumers on obtaining insurance coverage. Vold points out that the company spent a year reviewing thousands of documents – at considerable expense - to determine who should be notified instead of just searching the patient files for things like census reports for a much faster outcome.
