Below is this week’s congressional update by BakerHostetler’s Federal Policy team. We’ll continue to post in weeks when both chambers of Congress are in session.
HEADLINES
- Congressional Republicans return from recess to try to pass a second reconciliation bill and an extension of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.
- Several Cabinet secretaries will appear in congressional hearings, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
- Voters will choose their parties’ candidates in primary elections in California, Iowa, Montana, New Mexico, New Jersey and South Dakota.
HOUSE
- The House will hold floor votes Wednesday through Friday.
- Cabinet members appearing before House committees include Rubio, Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
- The Homeland Security Subcommittee on Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection will hold a hearing Thursday on artificial intelligence security.

SENATE
- Senate Republicans are trying to find a way forward on their immigration enforcement funding legislation, which stalled last month.
- Rubio and Bessent will also testify before Senate committees, as will Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin.
- The Commerce Committee will hold a hearing Wednesday on potential legislation addressing college athletes’ rights and compensation.

WHITE HOUSE
- President Donald Trump is at the White House today participating in meetings and signing an executive order.
- The rest of Trump’s weekly schedule is unknown.
