Partners Timothy Casey and Tayan Patel have been ranked in the 2026 IAM Strategy 300 directory, which lists top IP strategists who have been identified through confidential online nominations. The comprehensive research process also involves communications with senior members of the global IP community. Individuals from service providers, corporations, research institutions and universities are all considered for their skill and contributions to the IP community.
Casey has practiced IP and technology law for over 40 years and has a broad-based practice that includes patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, open source, licensing, transaction and due diligence matters. He represents clients with all types of technology transactional matters, as well as business planning and transitions, policy and strategy, particularly for emerging companies, for which he often operates as an outside general counsel. This is the seventh time he has been ranked by IAM Strategy 300. Casey is the Seattle Intellectual Property Leader.
Patel is co-leader of BakerHostetler’s Intellectual Property Technology team and focuses on IP and technology-centric transactions and strategic portfolio counseling involving auditing, governance, procurement, enforcement and risk management touching emerging/high-tech and life sciences. With more than 20 years of significant experience, he proactively helps locate acquisition or licensing targets for clients based on evolving business needs; conducts comprehensive IP and technology due diligence and negotiations associated with corporate transactions; and strategically handles IP, technology and data licensing agreements in the digital economy. This is the third time he has been ranked on this list.
