WASHINGTON — Dec. 8, 2022

BakerHostetler is proud to announce that Financial Times recently recognized the firm’s IncuBaker team, along with incoming CIO Katherine Lowry, in its annual Innovative Lawyers North America 2022 Awards. The IncuBaker team won in the Innovation in Client Delivery category, and Lowry was named Most Innovative Intrapreneur.

The awards, presented on Dec. 5 in New York, celebrate the best in innovation from law firms and in-house legal teams in the North America region.

“I am thrilled to see Financial Times recognize both IncuBaker and Katherine,” said Bob Craig, BakerHostetler’s current CIO and co-creator of IncuBaker. “BakerHostetler’s collaborative culture and focus on innovation are key components in not only firm achievements, including awards and recognitions like these, but also the overall success of our people and the excellent service we provide our clients.”

Innovation in Client Delivery

BakerHostetler’s IncuBaker team took home top honors for Innovation in Client Delivery. This category recognizes lawyers who have bridged professional disciplines, created new standards and delivered outstanding outcomes for clients with originality and impact.

The IncuBaker team was commended for its innovative role in enhancing and enriching corporate legal departments’ use of technology. IncuBaker created one of the first captive alternative legal service providers to respond to market demand, forming a legal tech consulting team to drive collaboration between corporate legal departments and technology departments inside corporate enterprises.

Most Innovative Intrapreneur

Lowry, BakerHostetler’s incoming CIO and current head of IncuBaker, was awarded Most Innovative Intrapreneur for her role in launching IncuBaker. This award honors an attorney who showcases IT as a business enabler or business consultancy opportunity.

Lowry, who in addition to her IncuBaker role also holds a J.D., was recognized for the part she played in IncuBaker’s 125% growth since 2016, which the team achieved by automating processes for clients, setting up global privacy programs and streamlining commercial contracting.

“BakerHostetler’s IncuBaker team under Katherine’s outstanding leadership has grown tremendously since its launch in 2015,” said Ted Kobus, chair of BakerHostetler’s Digital Assets and Data Management practice group. “With Katherine at the helm, the IncuBaker team is an industry pacesetter, well positioned at the intersection of emerging technology and the law.”
