Partner Sean Killeen was featured in a Law360 profile as a “Rising Star” in the cybersecurity and privacy space. In the article, published Aug. 19, 2026, he reflected on his biggest cases, what motivates him, why he chose cybersecurity and privacy and what he sees in the future for the industry.
Killeen found himself drawn to privacy law and cybersecurity incidents because of the divergence of the technology and tools being used in the real world, while judges and courts are trying to apply laws and statutes that were written before the current technology existed. He considers those challenges energizing, intellectually interesting and practically important.
As part of the Digital Assets and Data Management Group, Killeen handles privacy and cybersecurity litigation, including matters arising from data breaches and wiretapping allegations, as well as government investigations. He has defended major technology companies, retailers, credit unions, law firms, health care providers, insurance companies and private universities, among others, in large scale privacy litigation. This includes large-scale data breach class actions alleging violations of California’s Confidentiality of Medical Information Act, Consumers Legal Remedies Act, California Consumer Privacy Act, the Unfair Competition Law, New York General Business Law sections 349 and 350 and other statutes, as well as advertising technology litigation and mass arbitrations alleging violations of the California Invasion of Privacy Act, the Electronic Communications Privacy Act and similar laws.
A team of editors reviewed more than 1,100 submissions from more than 90 firms to arrive at this year’s list of more than 160 attorneys from 35 practice areas.
