With more than 20 years of experience, Om Kakani is a former assistant U.S. attorney and trial attorney with deep knowledge of the international cybersecurity landscape. He is well-versed in novel technologies such as cryptocurrency, blockchain, artificial intelligence and emerging cyber threats and he has presented to government and private sector audiences on these topics in more than 30 countries. Additionally, he has first chaired more than 40 jury trials in federal and state courts and defended those verdicts before appellate courts on the brief and in oral argument. Om takes an aggressive approach to helping his clients recover from cyber incidents and is always willing to pivot, act quickly and face any challenges that may be presented.
Om has led hundreds of investigations, including those involving cybercrimes, corporate trade secret theft, counterespionage, environmental crimes, terrorism, mail/wire fraud and money laundering. He has worked and coordinated with numerous federal and state agencies, private sector cybersecurity firms and large corporations that have been the victims of cyber attacks or industrial espionage. As a result of his extensive experience, Om was tasked with creating several international task forces across government agencies that address advanced digital crimes. He was also designated as an International Computer Hacking and Intellectual Property Attorney Advisor for the Department of Justice and the Department of State, where he advised U.S. government personnel domestically and abroad on wide-ranging cyber, crypto and intellectual property matters throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.
