A member of BakerHostetler’s Digital Assets and Data Management Group, Richard has a wealth of experience in cybersecurity, data and privacy matters. On the Digital Risk Advisory and Cybersecurity team, he helps clients address all parts of cybersecurity by drawing on over a decade of experience as in-house counsel in Fortune 100 businesses.
Before joining the firm, Richard worked at Abbott Laboratories as Division Counsel, advising leadership and other stakeholders on a variety of topics ranging from mergers and acquisitions privacy and cybersecurity due diligence and data licensing to privacy, cybersecurity and data risk mitigation strategies related to technology and data products. Richard also served in a similar role within financial services at State Farm, and prior to that as an associate in an AmLaw 100 firm specializing in commercial litigation and products liability.
During that time, Richard also supported compliance teams as they operationalized legal and regulatory requirements for engineering, commercial, sales, marketing and business development teams throughout product lifecycles. Additionally, he helped government relations teams as they developed strategies to effectively respond to a rapidly changing global policy landscape, as well as information security teams as they developed and implemented programs and incident response strategies.
Richard draws upon a deep well of creativity and experience working with a variety of risk appetites and teams and embraces a wide variety of approaches to offer clients solutions for their privacy, cybersecurity and data concerns.
