A former Uber cybersecurity chief was sentenced to three years of probation for criminal obstruction in a case stemming from his failure to report a data breach in 2016.
Media across the U.S. have been covering the trial, its outcome and its implications, and have looked to Partner Ed McAndrew for insight.
Corporate Counsel quoted McAndrew in its May 11, 2023, article, “What Executives Should Take From Ex-Uber Security Chief Joe Sullivan’s Sentence.” He told the publication that everyone in the industry wants to understand, “Where is the line, and how can we be sure we’re not crossing it?”
To InformationWeek, McAndrew said, “Imposing personal liability on senior executives in regulatory and now criminal action is unusual, but part of a larger, recent trend across the federal government.” That article, titled “Former Uber CSO Sentenced to Probation, Fined for Data Breach Cover-Up,” ran May 12, 2023.
