Los Angeles Summer Program

“As a summer associate at BakerHostetler, I felt truly welcomed and was received as another valued member of the team. From the first day, I was given real, substantive work assignments that allowed me to get a true sense of what it means to be an associate at BakerHostetler. As I explored various practice areas this summer, I always felt supported and was encouraged by both partners and associates to ask questions. I truly feel fortunate to have worked under the guidance of such an incredible group of attorneys!

To future associates I say: You will learn a lot about what it means to practice law and, more specifically, what it means to practice in a specific group, but one thing to know is that everyone at BakerHostetler already wants you to succeed and is excited to help you begin your legal career!”

- Stephanie Alvarez Salgado, 2019 Los Angeles Summer Associate, University of Southern California

The summer program in Los Angeles targets students who have completed two years of law school. At BakerHostetler, we are proud to have an environment characterized by integrity, civility, sensibility, diversity, and professional excellence. We strive toward innovation and building quality, long-standing client relationships. We seek to hire individuals who display these values.

We hire summer associates with the expectation that they will be asked to join us as associates. The summer program lasts approximately 10 weeks.

Our goal is to give each summer associate the best experience we can while they are with us. Summer associates work on projects assigned directly by various lawyers in the office. The projects are real work assignments, identical to those that would be given to associates. Evaluations are given midway through the summer and at the end of the program.

We assign a partner to supervise the summer associates and help them manage their workloads. Each summer associate also is paired with a mentor lawyer. Mentors assist their mentees in acclimating to the firm and answer questions regarding assignments, the summer program, or any other issues that may arise during the summer.

Just as our summer associates will experience hard work, they will also enjoy the camaraderie that comes with being part of BakerHostetler. The social calendar is designed to enable our summer associates and lawyers to get to know each other in a more relaxed atmosphere and to acquaint out-of-towners with the Los Angeles area. Here are some examples of social activities conducted in the past: Cirque de Soleil, Dodger games, concerts at the Hollywood Bowl, Santa Monica Pier and Greek Theatre, dinner at the Getty Center, cooking class and wine tasting, Pageant of the Masters, movie night and bowling night.

At BakerHostetler, our well-rounded summer program is designed to provide students with the training, experience, and confidence necessary to begin the journey to become great lawyers who will enjoy their colleagues and their work.
