The Seattle summer associate program is designed to give second year law students a realistic view of what it is like to practice law at BakerHostetler. Every effort is made to expose summer associates to all aspects of the firm by receiving substantive work, professional training and social networking opportunities. Summer associates can expect that they will be doing real work for real clients.&nbsp;

As our summer associates embark on the next step in their professional legal journey, the firm provides many opportunities to gain practical knowledge, in addition to meeting our lawyers and staff to gain a better understanding of the firm’s culture. By the end of the summer, our summer associates will have an excellent idea of what practicing law at BakerHostetler is all about. Our summer program typically lasts 10 weeks.

The Seattle office plans to hire 2 summer associates. Work Assignments

The Seattle office thoughtfully uses a workflow coordinator to consider capacity and to coordinate the rotation of summer associates through our various practice groups. Additionally, summer associates often collaborate on work assignments with our other offices.

Training

Throughout the summer, we offer legal training sessions and seminars, which provide summer associates excellent learning opportunities. This training is at both the office level and firmwide level. Recent training sessions have included:<strong></strong>

Mentoring

At BakerHostetler, we offer mentoring to our summer associates to ensure they grasp all the inner and outer workings of a law firm. This includes mentoring on best practices for time entries, how best to use your legal secretary, best practices for billing, and how best to utilize firm systems.

Each summer associate is assigned a dedicated legal secretary as well as a workflow coordinator with ongoing access to our partners and attorneys.

Social Events

Social events and activities are scheduled to allow a more relaxed interaction with our attorneys. Historically, activities have included sporting events, city tours, boat cruises, Space Needle visits, dinner featuring PNW cuisine, team-building activities, community service events, food/wine tours, cookouts at a partner’s home, and more. This also includes virtual events with our other offices and summer associates.

Learning Opportunities

Throughout the program, summer associates can expect to attend client site visits, business development meetings, hearings, in-house offered CLEs, in-person events, client calls and more.
