Orlando Summer Program

“My favorite part of the summer program was the exposure to several different practice areas, which led me to join a practice area that I never would have considered had I not done this program. My assignments were challenging and engaging, and I found the attorneys to be approachable, accessible, and willing to teach me. The mentorship program was also extremely helpful—my mentor took time from her busy schedule to offer guidance and support throughout the summer. Overall, the summer program was a rewarding educational experience for me.”

- Samanta Franchim, 2016 Summer Associate, University of Florida College of Law

The Orlando summer associate program is both challenging and rewarding and provides a realistic view of the life of an associate at a large national law firm. The summer program consists of ten weeks and generally begins immediately following the Memorial Day holiday. The program is designed to expose our summer associates to a wide range of practice areas which enables them to obtain experience that will assist in determining their strengths and interests for their careers. Work assignments are coordinated by two partners utilizing an on-line system that ensures equitable workloads and diverse projects among the Firm’s various practice areas. Additionally, recap meetings are scheduled weekly to discuss the status and any type of issue related to ongoing projects. Constructive and positive feedback is provided often, directly from the various attorneys assigning work, in addition to formal and informal review meetings scheduled throughout the summer.

Each summer associate is assigned a mentor who is available to answer all types of questions, discuss concerns and provide valuable insights. Our summer associates are frequently invited and encouraged to attend hearings, depositions, trials, business transactions and client conferences. Additionally, summer associates often attend training sessions and practice group meetings and luncheons.

The Orlando office believes strongly in developing and maintaining positive relationships at work and encourages activities and events that promote our collegial atmosphere. Personal and social interaction with the lawyers in a relaxed, casual setting is scheduled throughout the summer. Recent events have included a dinner party at the home of one of our partners, scenic boat tours, an Orlando City soccer game, an airboat ride in one of the many lakes in the Orlando area, clay shooting at Quail Creek Plantation, practice group dinners at restaurants, and a Great Escape Room adventure. Casual lunches, happy hour get-togethers and impromptu outings with our lawyers are also a popular and integral part of the Orlando office summer program.

At BakerHostetler, our well-rounded summer program is designed to provide students with the training, experience and confidence necessary to begin the journey to become great lawyers who will enjoy their colleagues and their work.
