Our Summer Associate Program is designed to give law students a realistic look into our practices with opportunities to learn what associate life is like and exposure to our greatest asset—our people.

Our Orange County office is excited to be hosting its inaugural summer associate program in 2025. The program will be 10 weeks long, starting in May and concluding by the end of July. During this time, students will participate in firmwide and local trainings where they will learn important skills essential to be a successful attorney.&nbsp;

At BakerHostetler, we strive to provide a balance of interesting and challenging work coupled with fun and exciting social events. Our summer class is comprised of predominantly second-year law students who are at the top of their classes. The Orange County office plans to hire 2 summer associates. Work Assignment

Summer associates work on projects assigned directly by various lawyers in the office. The projects are real work assignments, identical to those that would be given to associates and are not limited to any type of work or practice area.&nbsp; Summer associates throughout the firm have completed the following projects in previous years:

Training

We recognize that training is a critical component in every attorney’s professional development. Recent firmwide training sessions throughout the summer included:

Mentoring

We assign a partner to supervise the summer associates and help them manage their workloads. Each summer associate is also paired with a mentor lawyer. Mentors assist their mentees in acclimating to the firm and answer questions regarding assignments, the summer program or any other questions that may arise during the summer.

Social Events

Just as our summer associates will experience hard work, they will also enjoy the camaraderie that comes with being part of BakerHostetler.&nbsp; Each office holds a number of social events throughout the summer. Events may include dinner parties, live theatre performances, movie nights, hands-on cooking classes, sporting and recreational activities and other casual get-togethers. These events enable summer associates and attorneys to get to know one another socially in a relaxed atmosphere.

Our goal is to give each summer associate the best experience we can while they are with us. Summer associates often accompany lawyers to a variety of client-related events.&nbsp; Below are just some of the valuable experiences provided to our summer associates:
