Denver Summer Program

"Working as a summer associate at BakerHostetler has given me a real understanding of what it means to be an attorney. Since starting at the firm, I have been given many opportunities to learn alongside world class attorneys, including my partner mentor and associate mentor, who have continually provided support and enabled me to excel at my position. As a result, my legal research, writing, and analytical skills have greatly improved. I have been exposed to various client interactions, observed attorneys at trial, and gained a deeper understanding of day-to-day life and work within a law firm. The assignments I have been given are challenging and reflective of the type of work a junior associate would receive. Working at BakerHostetler has been a highly rewarding experience that will be invaluable to my professional development." — Sammantha Tillotson, University of Denver

The Denver summer associate program is designed to give prospective new hires a realistic view of what it is like to practice law at BakerHostetler. Summer associates can expect that they will be doing real work for real clients, at a level similar to that of our junior associates. Depending on an individual's area(s) of interest, this work may include drafting motions, writing briefs, drafting and/or responding to written discovery, conducting research, writing memos, analyzing deals, drafting contracts, preparing entity formation documents, and numerous other projects.

Summer associates are encouraged to observe our lawyers at work by attending depositions, mediations and closings, observing trials, and participating in client meetings where appropriate. By the end of the summer, our summer associates will have an excellent idea of what practicing law at BakerHostetler is all about.

The Denver summer associates participate in the Anti-Defamation League’s (ADL) Summer Associate Research Program. Associates research a topic and draft a memorandum and a one page summary of findings.

Each summer associate is assigned a mid-level or senior associate mentor who is knowledgeable about the firm and its dynamics. Work assignments are given to summer associates directly by the lawyers who need to have the work done, keeping in mind the areas of interest of the summer associates.

The Denver office typically hosts a number of social activities during the summer. There is baseball at Coors Field and happy hours, and the summer is rounded out with an annual end-of-summer party and dinner at a local restaurant. The summer associates also have the opportunity to meet other summer associates from several law firms in the Denver area at various events.

At BakerHostetler, our well-rounded summer program is designed to provide students with the training, experience, and confidence necessary to begin the journey to become great lawyers who will enjoy their colleagues and their work.
